take this

This is only a preliminary draft to initiate a blog for the MA Program in Aesthetics and Politics at CalArts. students only! Inspired by the lecture/conversation by/with Hans Haacke at Redcat (Downtown Los Angeles) yesterday, the not-at-all-friendly takeover by LACMA and our discussions about this after I want this blog to express our rage as well as confusion, questions, enthusiasm and euphoria linked to topics that we're studying and we're involved with in a broader sense (as broad as possible). This should lead to concerted interventions (which is this blog per se - an intervention in virtual space) or simply be a trigger for further exchange of ideas and perceptions. It can range from specific calls for action (as in the LACMA case) to short notices of doubt (like: after two de Man readings I am so confused . I think I will never ever say something again....) or "simply" images (take this!!!).
I - and I am sorry to put myself in so prominently here but I hope that we all share this idea – want this to give/draw/represent a year (I know I know it's already the second semester, anyway ...) of learning and dealing with ideas and thoughts and ideas about thought that surround us constantly. I want this to be our chance and way to appropriate/re-appropriate our program and our studies!
And don't get confused by the name - it's only there for the hitlist - I can excuse it with the joke about the name we made when introducing ourselves (and if you repeat aesthetics and politics as fast as you can it simply turns into that...). but eventually I just like it...
